Buyers on the lower end are praying that the current housing market meltdown will be the answer to their prayers. It could make the difference between buying and remaining priced out. However though more affordable properties are out there, I have been finding that most are still in unsafe neighborhoods or located poorly. A charming condo in the Neponset area of Dorchester is backed up to a parking lot and the yard is filled with trucks and garbage cans. No wonder it is not selling!
First time homebuyers like myself, unable to even remotely afford Davis Square have been waiting patiently for a nice, safe but affordable property in "less desirable" areas like Dorchester or Lynn. There is very little discussion here about the problems of less affluent people buying in less affluent areas. A $350 bargain in Davis Square, is out of my league. |

Thanks for the suggestion. One thing that could help broaden the discussion to include the lower priced markets would be more news articles on the subject. Please don't hesitate to post those which you come across.
