This is an example of old school Boston: this is street Boston and I love it. You put this together with all the fart smellers and we dominate: this is a video and he talks very plainly and has a few four letter words so open with care: this is for the other pissed off dude, you're not alone:

This is my native language, this is what streams through my head, and as smart as you get, if this voice isn't active in your head you'll be taken advantage of.

I did go to http://www.casinofacts.org/ and it referenced me to a great article:

http://www.massinc.org/index.php?id=110&pub_id=2150

It seems that the way these votes are being framed is like this:

The Fed's are going to allow it anyway, so if we're on board we can get a piece of the gravy train. If we protest and they fight a fight and we don't win, they aren't obliged to give us anything, we get nothing.

They said that when they asked the folks in Middleborough whether they wanted a casino or not squarely, they said overwhelmingly no. It was framed in a way where they were getting it, it was coming and what was the best way they could benefit from the foregone conclusion. It sounds like the authorization to go to War doesn't it? Prior to the vote to go to War, it was like, "Oh, this is meant to send a strong message to Saddam". As soon as the vote was cast, it was entirely about a preemptive strike, all the conditions were never measured. What we need to do is to get very clear subject and copy to vote on. People were misled.

I wonder if the Open Meeting Law rules and regulations were upheld for all the scheming that was done.

How about the article about Swelleley:

http://www.boston.com/realestate/news/articles/2007/09/26/little_appetite_for_mcmansions/

I actually know the builder referenced and his family; totally top shelf folks, salt of the earth types. Interesting how a rich town can have an issue about how "rich" your house can be while a poor town has to get a casino. I'd rather have the problem of having McMansions than McCasinos.

This goes back to some of this blog's discussions of the changing landscape of housing due to the redistribution of wealth in the past 10 years or so.

I really like Ted Kennedy but it's interesting that he doesn't want a wind farm because the developer is running "rough shot" and he seems kind of quiet when this stuff is going on to a struggling town. Further, one of his ex-employees is out there on the front lines fighting for this.

I like this old lady's testimony about how this "tribal leader" when he was a kid used to make fun of the indians and bully them, then when there is money involved he decides to be an indian; and Deval is his friend.

http://medianation.blogspot.com/2007/08/whats-next-for-casino.html

Here's the thing for me regarding housing. This is a perfect test of our constitution (what we are made of). If we have the top education, if we have a world class employment base, AND we haven't forgotten the lessons of where we came from (that tribal stick together look out for everyone mindset) Massachusetts will be a force to be reckoned with and I will feel better knowing who's on my left and right going into the future here. I feel that if we can't beat this, I give more stock to those that say our future here is going down.

I just can't wait for the inevitable contamination of southeastern Massachusetts spilling out from Middleboro. All the surrounding towns, including the South Shore will see property values plummet because of this stupid casino.

You stupid people. You had one of the most prestine areas in southeastern Massachusetts and you chose to infect it with this? Fast forward a very few years and you will see more traffic, violent crimes and drug-dependancy coming from your once nice little New England town.

Don't you get it? You gain a bunch of minimum wage jobs and a big ol' gamblin' monkey on your back for a lot of your citizens.

On behalf of all the people this will negatively impact.

...thanks for ruining this little strip of New England by putting this mecca to short-sightedness and selfishness right up front where we can see it and feel it.

...thanks you morons

These are street tactics. A bully, or predator waits to see how much crap someone will take and then take a temperature reading on whether the onlookers will take action or not. If they find an area where people don't care or don't report crime or stick up for eachother, there is no herd protective mentality it becomes a breeding ground for predators and crime. It's like when someone doesn't take pride in themselves and other people pick on them; this is totally street level. Massachusetts is a special place, people look to us to be strong and smart. Looking out for eachother, if you mess with one of us you mess with all of us mentality is what makes us strong. When that value breaks down we are a magnet for trouble.

Just look, it wasn't a week when Patrick came up with his plan when they said that they wanted to set up a temporary operation by mid 2008. What were they going to build a butler building garage and what the hell, circumvent local building code?

The thing to wake up to is the extent of what you are opening the door to. They told Middleborough that it was a foregone conclusion and that they had to go along or they would get nothing. This would never happen, but they bought that line of crap. The new line of crap is that there will only be 3 licenses. That is absolute crap. If you open the door for 3 licenses you will have a line of lawsuits and lobbyists putting constant pressure, constant on opening up more. If you don't believe that's possible you need to be a little more street smart.

IF YOU THINK IT IS BAD NOW, THINK ABOUT WHAT IT WILL BE LIKE WHEN TO BE ELECTED YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE MONEY FROM THE CASINO FOLKS. If you don't think that casino money won't influence Massachusetts policy makers you need to be more street smart. Think Jack Abramhoff, think Houston, think Alberto Gonzales, think Enron; Houston is a great city that got polluted with bad people, or say good people that in their minds rubbed out the line of what is right and wrong. This is Massachusetts, this stuff doesn't happen here. What absolutely disturbs me is that the Police Union and Firefighter's Union in Middleborough seemed to have supported this casino. If this is the case, it is shocking because you would think that they care about the families that they have taken an oath to protect and serve. How on earth is putting this type of magnet for crime in any way in line with protecting and serving the families of Middleborough? Most policemen and firefighters have this protective heroic instinct. It is one of the most honorable traits a man or woman could have. I would like to see those men and women dig deep and do some soul searching because I know that they have a heightened state regarding protection as a lawyer does with justice; I would like them to think about what is best for the safety of our community and speak based on that and not be blinded by the future money they will make in all the details and overtime they might get. I would think about all the policemen and women who gave their lives because of their protective and heroic instinct and draw from their spirit when they evaluate this.

You're god dam right, this sort of poison would make someone rethink wanting to raise their kids in our State, it will have long term effects on our future including housing prices.

I can see why the Middleboro police would vote for the casino:

job security

When did so many people become so stupid? It's just another business people. I guarentee that the average person in Middleboro is going to despise this place

These folks are Massachusetts future leaders and I am so psyched. These kids are the ones that are getting the housing bubble shoved up... I'm glad they've got a little fight.

I'd love to get everyone in this group to have some fun exposing the pro-casino argument.

We could set up a realtor list of awful expressions like: It has pottery barn look, pride of ownership, cozy, character, little tired, etc.
